An American style cuisine restaurant based on the Southern end of the Gold coast . If your a fan of Chicken dishes, you have come to the right place. The menu is full of old favourites like buttermilk fried chicken , pork and beef ribs, brisket and of course cold beer!
After 2 laps around the block trying to find some form of signage, I eventually parked up and walked around the building, up the back stairs and followed the Smokey smell of Ribs.
The décor of Lester and Earl is modern with hints of an American style saloon like the saddles at the bar.
The main area is well fitted out and gives a cosy feel without being cramped. We were greeted at the door after about 5 mins (busy night)and shown to the table.
The Clipboards present a menu, which makes the mouth water. I start with a Stone and Wood Larger, (although the selection of beers is perfect for a Sunday afternoon drinking session out on the balcony) and before I can start to browse the menu I’m ordering my second glass straight from the Tap. The drinks service is quick, and although busy at this stage, the staff all have vibrant personality I would expect from a hip place. Their willingness to suggest things to drink and engage in a bit of banter and conversation was noticeable.
I move onto the menu and straight away the “Smack and Cheese” gives me ideas that shouldn’t be entertained at the dinner table, and I order that as a sneaky starter. Brisket, Beef and Pork ribs, Buttermilk fried Chicken consume my thoughts for the next few minutes and I decide to ask the waitress of her suggestions. She recommends the Brisket, as “It looks great tonight”. I go with the brisket and add a side of Tex-Mex Corn and buttermilk fried chicken with the Chipotle Aioli (Which has become all too common).
The 1960’s playlist keeps you entertained for the 15 minutes until our food arrived. The Chicken was definitely the standout, piping hot, crunchy and as tasty as the ones I have had in the US of A. The Brisket was Tender and with the sides of Cornbread, Chips and Coleslaw was a meal fit for an American. The corn was a nice side to compliment the chicken.
All in all, keeping with the trend that is these new American Style Restaurants, Lester and Earl do the southern American Cuisine proud and isn’t a bad mid week or weekend choice for a bite to eat.
Reasonably priced with a good atmosphere, tasty food and your average gold coast level of service. I will be back when I need my fix of Buttermilk fried chicken.
